“Hey! Are you a friend of the couple?”
“那個攝影師是你的朋友啊？”(“Is that photographer your friend?”)
“You seem to know the couple well.”
These are comments that I usually receive when I’m photographing a wedding and they are music to my ears. I’m always heartened to see how my relationship with the couple progresses from strangers during our very first meeting together, to friends. And I can’t emphasise enough the importance of this first meeting, which is done before the couple confirms the engagement of my services. This is where we get to know each other (what the couple is looking for and what I can provide), my photography direction and more importantly, to see if we can work well together.
Because what creates great photos, other than the photographer’s skill, is the chemistry between the couple and the photographer.
It is this chemistry between my couple and I that allows us to freely tease each other, joke around and be silly without judgement. Not only does this make the sessions fun to shoot, more importantly, it allows me to enter my couple’s personal space naturally and take those candid, emotional shots.
YuWei, Kaylene and I hit it off very well during our first meeting. Apart from the wedding planning, we touched out common interests like traveling and diving. In fact, we had such a great time together that I could still remember the topics we spoke about.
To the bubbly couple, words can’t express how much I appreciate your trust in me when you allow me to be freely creative, and when both of you are fearlessly funky with each other under my guidance. You are SUPERB. Hope you guys enjoyed your wedding, despite the little hiccups in the agenda. Have an awesome married life with Nugget!
